Means carefully disconnecting positive leads and unscrewing from van to be able to see the main label. To find the full model number OP needs to look at the face of the unit. That label and part number are only for the solenoid portion of the unit. Posted: Thu 12:52 pm Post subject: Re: Anyway to fix failing battery isolator? Vanagon VAG GAS engine swap Google Group: regulator at alternator, that might cause isolator to open/close randomly. If the isolator uses the blue D+ wire and that connection was loose or there was some issue on that D+ circuit, e.g. Images of entire area under driver seat will help. If your images are of battery box under driver seat, at top of first image, are those metal stud things battery posts? IF so, and that OE red wire takes positive from fuse panel at dash IMO, not the best way to do things. If images are of under driver seat, the harness with red wire to isolator looks stock that red wire is likely #12 and likely supplies positive to isolator. battery is super low, all loads that run off aux battery are turned on? Web searching isolator PN's gets hits for a White-Rodgers brand.īattery is potentially only one load on supply/load wires. Posted: Thu 12:31 pm Post subject: Re: Anyway to fix failing battery isolator?Īs a WAG, the larger red wire at isolator is likely #10. The information age has morphed into the age of disinformation and willful ignorance. Here's one, but there are different models. I have always covered these with electrical tape to prevent accidental shorting to ground.Ĭheck which model you have and then google for wiring diagrams and instructions. Those are the metal bars you see running from the positive (red) wire connections to the main body of the unit. The one thing I don't really like about these is the exposed bus bars. If it's failing the separator maybe trying to charge a bad battery. You will have to trace wires and check installation.Īlso check your aux battery's condition. Since these are a PO installed unit there's no way to know how all the wires are run from looking at a picture here on the Samba. So trace all the wires and check connections are tight. Every time the unit senses a disconnect / reconnect it will trip the solenoid inside. The main thing to check if it's clicking are all the connections. There are newer and fancier setups available these days but these work great. I've used these for years (still have one in my Syncro Westy) and they are very reliable. Carefully check the side of the unit for model number. That's a Surepower (also called Eaton) battery separator (and maybe combiner depending on model and how it's wired).
